The Turkish swimming federation and Maratonmasters organized the first winter cup in Izmir. The water temp. was about 15-16 degrees and the weather temp. about 12 degrees. I had the first place among all 100 swimmers. The distance was about 1.5 km and my time was 13.50.
Because of the cold water wet suit was a must and therefore we could swim faster and felt the cold water less. The conditions were great: The sun was shining, the sea was clear, the racing area was nicely prepared with a clear route and the security team was really engaged and motivating. Overall it was a great atmosphere. I recommend this experience to everyone. Next year there will be as well further distances such as 3 km.
